Call for Artists: In honor of our 60th anniversary, the Central Valley Community Foundation is excited to partner with @maderacountyartscouncil to commission artwork from Central Valley artists depicting impactful historical moments from this region and its people over the past 60 years. Artwork submissions must be visual mediums. Winners will each be awarded $1,500 plus the cost of materials. To apply, visit the link in bio. #GranteeSpotlight: @sequoiariverlands recently celebrated the grand re-opening of its Dry Creek Nursery. As one of eight @s2j2initiative Catalyst Projects, the nursery received funding to build a greenhouse to enable year-round plant production. In addition to water conservation, the native plants also support local job creation.

"Restoring the ecosystems of the San Joaquin Valley will require a workforce. It requires people trained in restoration, land management, native plant production, and watershed stewardship —and that workforce must originate from our region," said Logan Robertson Huecker, Ph.D., SRT Executive Director.

“DRIVE’s vision is to build an economy that works for everyone, especially people who’ve been overlooked or held back,” said Artie Padilla, Director of DRIVE Initiatives.

From the extensive research that went into the Central Valley Health Care Landscape Study, one of the most alarmingly trends that stakeholders identified was the maternity care crisis. Maternal and infant mortality rates in the Central Valley exceed state averages and national benchmarks. Due to a variety of factors, including a shortage of maternity and neonatal-perinatal specialists and the closure of multiple labor and delivery units, prenatal care rates are low, and there is an increase in high-risk births. One element that has been implemented to help mitigate the maternity crisis is broadening access to other types of resources, including Medi-Cal's coverage of doula services. In recognition of Black Maternal Health Week, the BLACK Wellness & Prosperity Center released "Birthing While Black: A Hospital Guide" this week.
