By Laura Ramos, Community Engagement Associate

We are 9 days away from The Big Tell Showcase presented by Bank of America! Central Valley Community Foundation would like to invite the community to join us on Friday, October 25th from 7:00- 9:30 pm at the Tower Theatre as we premiere 10 mini-documentaries produced by 10 filmmakers right here in our region! Tickets are free and required, please click HERE to reserve your seat.

Everyday from now until The Big Tell Showcase we’ll be introducing each one of our filmmakers so you can get to know them and what their film will be about. Today we’d like you to meet Haley White!

Where are you from?

I’m from Corcoran, California

How old are you?

I am 38 years old.

How long have you been in film or a filmmaker/producer?

I’ve been working as a theatre producer for most of my adult life and as a film producer for about 9 years.

What’s the name of the film you’ll be showcasing at The Big Tell?

The working title is Story Queens.

What county does your film take place in?

Fresno County

How did you decide on your film concept?

I am a big fan of Justin Kamimoto of Common Space and all he does for Fresno, specifically for our LGBTQIA+ and youth communities. This is just one of the great events he has brought to town to promote inclusivity and community. There is so much more at play here than just the fun nature of the event itself. It teaches kids to question the unknown with curiosity, imagination, and an open mind from an early age, rather than with fear. I think that is really important.

How has the process been for the making of your film?

We don’t film until Saturday, so for the time being it’s just been a matter of coordinating schedules and other pre-production type development. We did decide early on that we wanted to make sure a child was involved in telling the narrative and I think that has made planning things more exciting than if we were just going about things in a typical way.

What do you hope the audience at the Showcase takes away from your film?

I hope they get to see what Drag Story Time is through a kid’s eyes.

Is there something you’d like to share about yourself and/or your film?

Just really happy to be back for my third year with the Big Tell (second year as a filmmaker). I love this event.
