Everyday from now until The Big Tell Showcase we’ll be introducing each one of our filmmakers so you can get to know them and what their film will be about. Today we’d like you to meet Carlos Burgos!
Where are you from?
I’m from Lemoore, California
How old are you?
I am 30 years old.
How long have you been in film or a filmmaker/producer?
I began getting into film-making roughly 2 years ago.
What’s the name of the film you’ll be showcasing at The Big Tell?
The name of my film is Professional AND Skater.
What county does your film take place in?
My film takes place in Kings County.
How did you decide on your film concept?
This film idea began as just a project to practice different types of filmmaking such as documentary and the style of skateboarding videos and evolved from there. I explained the concept to my good friend, Ronald Tagliareni, and he agreed to be the subject of the film.
I admired the passion he maintained for skateboarding throughout the years while still managing to become an educated professional and contributing community member. It’s not often you see that combined or maybe it’s just not shown. So this was a chance to show that.
How has the process been for the making of your film?
It has been fun and a great learning experience working on this project. It has been a great help being able to use really good filmmaking equipment from CMAC and learning to use those tools.
Ronnie has also been a big help not just as the subject of the film but as someone who is familiar with videography as his undergraduate was in mass communication and journalism. He has given me a lot of valuable tips and insights on this film and throughout my filmmaking journey in general.
I also feel really fortunate to get to have Sascha Rice as a mentor on this project and have already began learning from her!
