We are 6 days away from The Big Tell Showcase presented by Bank of America! Central Valley Community Foundation would like to invite the community to join us on Friday, October 25th from 7:00- 9:30 pm at the Tower Theatre as we premiere 10 mini-documentaries produced by 10 filmmakers right here in our region! Tickets are free and required, please click HERE to reserve your seat.

Everyday from now until The Big Tell Showcase we’ll be introducing each one of our filmmakers so you can get to know them and what their film will be about. Today we’d like you to meet Adán Ávalos.

Where are you from?

I’m from the heart of our beautiful, golden state. Madera, a corrido swinging town, where culture, resistance, and community still thrive.

How old are you?

I’m old enough to vote because to vote is to have voice.

How long have you been in film or a filmmaker/producer?

I’ve been a life-long creative artist, thinker, and scholar, but discovered the power of the flickers, ever since our family bought our first VHS Camcorder. And believe-it-or-not, I still make movies with my trusted Quasar!!!

What’s the name of the film you’ll be showcasing at The Big Tell?

El espiritu de las danzas is the title of our little, lyrical film that could.

What county does your film take place in?

Our captivating, little film plays out under the puffy, white clouds and blue skies of Madera county.

How did you decide on your film concept?

My family, my neighbors, my community. It is because of them, that I am who I am. Our film wouldn’t be, if it weren’t for them.

How has the process been for the making of your film?

To quote Camus, “and never have I felt so deeply at one and the same time so detached from myself and so present in the world”

What do you hope the audience at the Showcase takes away from your film?

I hope that as much as we take, we give. And let’s never forget that we are who we are because of those who were here before us. Let’s honor our past, live for today, and celebrate our future.

Is there something you’d like to share about yourself and/or your film?

El espiritu de las danzas is for our mothers, sisters, brothers, and fathers, and to all the past moments, and to all the future past moments that will be. to all those dreamy eyes and beautiful people that have passed and will pass through our lives.
