By Laura Ramos, Community Engagement Associate
We are 8 days away from The Big Tell Showcase presented by Bank of America! Central Valley Community Foundation would like to invite the community to join us on Friday, October 25th from 7:00- 9:30 pm at the Tower Theatre as we premiere 10 mini-documentaries produced by 10 filmmakers right here in our region! Tickets are free and required, please click HERE to reserve your seat.
Everyday from now until The Big Tell Showcase we’ll be introducing each one of our filmmakers so you can get to know them and what their film will be about. Today we’d like you to meet Orlando J. Gomez!
Where are you from?
I’m from Fresno, California
How old are you?
I am 32 years old.
How long have you been in film or a filmmaker/producer?
I have been creating short films and a part of the production world since I was in junior high, but I have been professionally working in the industry for 14 years.
What’s the name of the film you’ll be showcasing at The Big Tell?
100 Years of Suffrage
What county does your film take place in?
My film takes place in Fresno County.
How did you decide on your film concept?
The story was actually pitched by the Women’s League of Voters and I was hired to bring it to life.
How has the process been for the making of your film?
The process was a little rough in the beginning, being that it wasn’t a concept I sourced myself. It took a little time to acclimate to the client’s vision and needs, but once those pieces feel into place, it took off.
What do you hope the audience at the Showcase takes away from your film?
I hope they see the importance of voting and voting rights. I hope they see where we’ve been in the past, how things are better now, but also how much more work we still have in front of us.
Is there something you’d like to share about yourself and/or your film?
This is my second time directing a mini doc for The Big Tell. Along with my production company, Stellar Lense Productions, I am excited to bring in my old friend Haley White, who is also a Big Tell alumni director, to help tell this story in the best way possible.
